Welcome back. For those just joining us, allow me to introduce ourselves. The Austin Séance is a creative and somewhat experimental collaboration devoted to the history and practice of American séances and Spiritualism. Led by Artistic Director Albert Lucio and myself, Editorial Director Jake Cordero, The Austin Séance has been operating from its home base in Central Texas since 2016. Our work includes séance demonstrations in museums and other pubic institutions, occult workshops, occult lectures and academic seminars. The Austin Séance also operates an editorial division.
ANNUAL COMPENDIUM OUT SOON
Today we’re writing to let you know about our first annual compendium of printed content. It will be out soon and if you’re a paid Patreon subscriber, expect to get your copy FREE in the mail. Otherwise, the compendium will be available for order from our website or for purchase during our live events. Included in it will be reprints of the first two issues of The Austin Séance Quarterly Journal — both from 2021 — plus a program guide from a Corpus Christi séance, and a tasseography guide for those interested in tea leaf reading. That last item includes eight pages of sample tea interpretations.
UPCOMING APPEARANCES
Thanks for everyone who made it out to our workshops and séances last year. We’ve been at it for nearly a decade now, and we very much appreciate your continued support. We’re now beginning to fill out our 2025 schedule with a few public events, including our booth appearance at the Nosferatu Fest in Austin during the weekend of Feb. 22-23; a séance scheduled for the weekend of March 29 at San Antonio’s Villa Finale (to commemorate the first Fox Sister’s séance of 1848); and an appearance on May 17 at the upcoming Spirit and Psychic Fest, hosted by our friends at Curious Twins Paranormal. Watch our website for details of these events and others.
NEW AD DROPS FOR QUARTERLY JOURNAL
Our spooky friend Scarah, Damsel of the Doomed, has created a delightful digital ad for The Austin Séance Quarterly Journal. Scarah and The Austin Séance released the ad simultaneously online earlier this year. You can view it here or at the bottom of this post. And if you haven’t checked out Sarah’s presentations, do so soon. She hosts her regular Scream Theatre every month at Doc’s Drive-In (in Buda, Texas); sings for the rock-n-roll band, The Immortalz; and stars in a new movie, Damsel of the Doomed.
QUARTERLY JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION INFO
The Austin Séance Quarterly Journal is a print-only ‘zine-sized publication devoted to the history and practice of American Spiritualism and séances. There are two ways to get home delivery: through a no frills $25-per-year home subscription, or with a $5-per-month Patreon membership that comes with ticket discounts and other perks (like the mailed-to-your-home upcoming annual compendium). All subscription and Patreon proceeds —100 percent — we use to pay our guest writers and artists and to defray our substantial production costs. Albert and I don’t take a dime in profit. And we don’t use AI.
